Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross Delivers Keynote Address at 21st Annual Satellite Industry Association Leadership Dinner

WASHINGTON, March 13, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) today announced that U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross delivered a keynote address at SIA’s 21st Annual Satellite Industry Leadership Dinner. The Secretary was joined by fellow keynote speaker Ajit Pai, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.  The Dinner took place on March 12th at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.

Wilbur L. Ross, Jr. was sworn in by Vice President Mike Pence as the 39th Secretary of Commerce on February 28, 2017. Secretary Ross is the principal voice of business in the Trump Administration, ensuring that U.S. entrepreneurs and businesses have the tools they need to create jobs and economic opportunity.  For a complete official biography of Secretary Ross, please click HERE.

Last month, during a meeting of the National Space Council (NSC), Secretary Ross addressed the NSC and recommended the Office of Space Commerce and the Commercial Remote Sensing Regulatory Affairs office be moved from their present location in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to his direct oversight in the Office of the Secretary.  The proposed elevated and amplified Office of Space Commerce would coordinate all space-related functions at the Department including remote sensing, spectrum policy, business and trade promotion, and export controls.

The SIA Leadership Dinner is held annually during SATELLITE Week in Washington, DC.  For over two decades, SIA has gathered satellite industry executives and government officials in order to recognize the important role the commercial satellite industry plays both domestically and abroad and to honor individuals who have demonstrated long-term leadership and dedication to public service on issues affecting the industry.  The event is open to SIA Guests, Executive and Associate Members.
