The Netherlands have qualification for the Nations League semi-finals in their sights after beating France 2-0 on Friday to hand Didier Deschamps’ side their first defeat since winning the World Cup.

Georginio Wijnaldum struck on the stroke of halftime and the dazzling Memphis Depay chipped home a cheeky stoppage-time penalty to bag a win in Rotterdam for Ronald Koeman’s revitalised side that leaves the impressive Dutch needing just a point against relegated Germany on Monday to leapfrog France and make the semi-finals.

WALES 1-2 DENMARK

Denmark climbed into the top tier of the Nations League with a 2-1 win over Wales in Cardiff on Friday.

Victory saw Denmark top Group B4 and secure promotion to League A. Nicolai Jorgensen finished off a superb counter-attack to put the visitors in front three minutes before halftime at the Cardiff City Stadium before Martin Braithwaite’s 88th-minute strike doubled the Danes’ lead.

There was still time for Wales to pull one back through Gareth Bale’s 31st international goal, but five minutes of stoppage time proved insufficient for Ryan Giggs’ men to find an equaliser.

BRAZIL 1-0 URUGUAY

Brazil defeated South American rivals Uruguay 1-0 in an international friendly played in London with Neymar notching the only goal from the penalty spot. The Paris Saint-Germain forward converted 15 minutes from time to settle a low-key game.

Uruguay strikers Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez found themselves starved of service all game, as Brazil gradually edged into control.

And the controversial breakthrough came when Danilo took a tumble under a challenge from Diego Laxalt and Neymar calmly stroked home the spot-kick with keeper Martin Campana going the wrong way.
