Bermuda Airport issues request for proposals for 11 retail and five food & beverage units

BERMUDA. Bermuda LF Wade International Airport is inviting proposals for retail and food & beverage concessions for its new terminal development.

Skyport, the company responsible for delivering the project, is offering up to 11 retail locations and five F&B locations in the new 29,000sq m terminal building.

Proposals can be for one or more locations. The deadline for submission is 27 November with anticipated contract awards on 8 January 2019.

The new passenger terminal building, scheduled for completion in the summer of 2020, is part of a major airport redevelopment.

Last year, about 860,000 passengers were recorded. The airport estimates an increase in passenger traffic to about 900,000 for 2018.

The new terminal’s 17,000sq m ground level will house a departures hall, check-in counters, baggage and passenger screening, arrivals, customs and immigration, duty free, specialty retail, food & beverage, an outdoor terrace and information.

The 12,000sq m second level will house separate US departures and international departures hold rooms, duty free and specialty retail, food & beverage, outdoor terraces, VIP Lounges and other services.

The retail concessions include up to five locations on the ground level, landside area of the passenger terminal. There are also five locations post-security US and international departures hold rooms, and one arrivals duty free shop.

The five food & beverage locations include two on the ground level landside area, two in the post-security US and one in international departures.

All the locations are to be designed, developed and operated by one or more proponents.

Skyport said that is looking for proposals for locations with “a thoughtful design aesthetic’’ and a strong focus on “Sense of Place’’.

It has also outlined initial requirements for the retail concessions – although alternative suggestions are welcome. These cover travel convenience, including magazines, beverages, snacks, limited health products, travel electronics and accessories; gifts and unique local concepts. Others are duty free perfume and cosmetics, liquor and tobacco, confectionery, gourmet foods and condiments, fashion and accessories, toys and local products and souvenirs.

For the food & beverage locations, Skyport is looking for fresh, contemporary concepts; healthy options, with a mix of international and local cuisine; innovative design, evoking a Bermudian Sense of Place; service excellence; value for money and profitability.
