President Ram Nath Kovind, who is on a three-nation visit to Europe, on Monday said GST has led to uniform, simpler and digitally-enabled taxation in all states of the country.

“GST has led to uniform, simpler & digitally-enabled taxation in all our states. This is a historic achievement that can be compared to bringing European Union into a common fiscal framework,” said President Kovind at House of Representatives of Cyprus.

Talking about the India economy he said, it “grew at a scorching 8.2 per cent in the previous quarter.”

“India is the world’s fastest-growing large economy. Our GDP grew at a scorching 8.2 per cent in the previous quarter. India is open for business and investment – and India is open for Cyprus. Do come and come quickly!” said the President and added, “We are clear in our belief that the global village too is an organic, integrated entity, where everybody, every nation, is part of an interlinked chain and contributes to each other’s prosperity.”

He also thanked Cyprus for supporting India’s candidature for Security Council.

“I would like to thank Cyprus for its unstinted backing of India’s candidature for an expanded UN Security Council as well as for the Nuclear Suppliers’ Group,” said President Kovind.

On Sunday, Kovind arrived in Cyprus on the first leg of his three-nation visit to Europe. The aim of the visit is to continue India's high-level engagements with European countries. In addition to Cyprus, Kovind will also visit Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.

At the Larnaca International Airport, the President and his wife were received by Georgios Lakkotrypis, Cyprus' Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism.

"Happy to begin my visit to Cyprus, one of our closest and most steadfast partners in the international community. My delegation and I bring warm and friendly currents from the Indian Ocean to the waters of the Mediterranean. Looking forward to a productive visit," Kovind tweeted.

This is Kovind’s first overseas state visit in the second year of his presidency.
