Baltimore airport expands retail entrepreneur support

The WI Marshall Airport in Baltimore, operated by Fraport USA, is aiming to expand its pilot LaunchPad retail entrepreneurship initiative into a full fledged entity.

The LaunchPad, created in collaboration with the Maryland Aviation Administration, according to the Baltimore Sun, is aimed at helping local entrepreneurs launch their business within the airport's retail segment. It began with mini kiosk businesses selling tea, fashion items and accessories.

"This successful pilot opens the door for more local startups and small businesses at the airport," Brett Kelly, vice president of Fraport Maryland, said in an announcement, according to the Sun. The program is hoping to lure a few more local business owners to run kiosk businesses within concourse areas.

"LaunchPad gives local startups an opportunity to do business in one of the region's most dynamic retail environments, exposing their brand to millions of visitors in BWI Marshall Airport," BWI Executive Director Ricky Smith said in the announcement.
