Wizz Air UK: This budget airline just became 'Brexit-proof'

Wizz Air UK has been given permission to operate out of British airports

One of the subsidary's of Europe’s fastest growing airlines has today been given permission to operate out of UK airports.

Wizz Air UK - a subsidary of the larger Wizz Air Holdings - has been granted an Air Operator’s Certificate and Operating Licence by the United Kingdom’s Civil Aviation Authority.

This will ensure the airline can continue to operate in the UK after Brexit.

The new branch will begin operations today, May 3, out of their headquarters at London’s Luton airport – with the first flight between Luton and Bucharest, Romania.

By the end of 2018, Wizz Air UK expects to have eight new Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 aircrafts and will have created 300 new jobs.

It will fly to destinations such as Larnaca, Tirana, Tallinn, Bratislava, Lviv, Athens, Keflavik and Bari – with fares staring as low as £13.99.

József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer at Wizz Air said in a statement: “Today marks the start of a new era in air travel in the United Kingdom, as we celebrate Wizz Air UK’s first flight following the approval of its UK operating licence.

“While Wizz Air UK is a key part of our Brexit contingency plan, it is also the first genuine ultra-low cost carrier licensed in the UK and the natural next-step in the development of our UK business.”
