Jack the Ripper's identity is the mystery that Brits most want solved.

New research has revealed that the British public is obsessed with figuring out who the serial killer that terrorised the streets of Victorian London was.

A poll of 2,000 adults has revealed that the public want answers on the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 in 2014 and who killed US president John F. Kennedy in 1963.

People are keen to solve what happened to missing aristocrat Lord Lucan and the killing of rapper Tupac Shakur.

Sky History commissioned the research to launch the new show 'Jack the Ripper: Written In Blood'.

A spokesperson said: "We seem to be fascinated by crimes of the past – especially those that are still a mystery.

"These cases, shrouded in intrigue and unanswered questions, offer a unique glimpse into the darker aspects of history."

Interest in true crime has soared in recent times and disappearance cases were cited as the most popular type of mystery for 42 per cent of respondents, followed by cold case murders and serial killers (both 37 per cent).
