Singer Chesney Hawkes has revealed he left his children a heartbreaking voice note as he feared the worst during a recent flight. The pop star, 53, confessed he and his wife were left in tears as they recorded a message to tell their children "I love you".

The One and Only singer was on an Aegean Airlines Airbus A320 earlier in the week when the incident took place. He was flying with 156 people from Greece to Barcelona when their aircraft dropped 20,000ft in just six minutes. Despite the fears, the explanation given was due to a "gradual decompression".

As the pilot gave the order to "brace" it's said passengers on board screamed in fear. Following the emergency descent, the plane was stabilised before being diverted to Naples.

He was left smiling following the panic as he posed with the pilot of the plane after landing. Sharing the snap, Chesney said: "Thank you to all that kept their heads cool, especially Captain Fantastic for landing our plane safely today.

"This was not what we expected but it's made us appreciate life and those we love just that little bit more."

Opening up further on the ordeal, Chesney told The Sun: "We left a voice message on the family WhatsApp group. We were both crying and told the kids how proud we were of them and how much we loved them.

"We thought we were going down. Our ears hurt and babies were crying. The pilot came over the loudspeaker and said, 'Emergency descent — brace'.

"One of the stewardesses was in a foetal position on the floor trying to get a mask on while also trying to talk to us over the intercom."

He added: "The plane was rattling and banked so steeply we looked out and could see the sea. We thought we were going into the water. Krissy and I looked at each other and hugged."

However, he went on to reveal the emergency landing turned out to be okay, but a little bit bumpy.

Following the incident, the Aegean Group said: "The captain following procedures requested to divert into the nearest airport and all passengers were safely disembarked. Another aircraft has already been dispatched to ensure passengers can continue their journey to their final destination."

Chesney is rumoured to be joining the Celebrity Big Brother house when the iconic show returns to ITV next week.

A source recently told The Sun: "Chesney Hawkes is one of those rare British celebrities who crosses generational divides. Everyone knows The One and Only even if the youngsters might not recognise his name.

"He's also had decades in showbiz, so CBB bosses hope he'll be loose-lipped about celebrity encounters over the years, just like Louis Walsh last year. It's perfect timing for Chesney too as he's releasing a comeback album in April."
