TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Some areas of Saudi Arabia are expected to be pelted with heavy rain at the end of Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr 2025, which falls this weekend. Saudi Arabia, along with other Gulf Arab countries, is likely to celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Saturday.
A meteorology expert from the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) in Saudi Arabia, Aqeel Al Aqeel, stated that rain will pour over several regions until Eid al-Fitr and the following week.
Aqeel Al Aqeel, a weather analyst at the Saudi National Center for Meteorology (NCM), as reported by Gulfnews on Monday, said that the weather that started in early Ramadan is expected to continue until Eid al-Fitr.
Al Aqeel predicted moderate to heavy rainfall, especially in the central and the kingdom eastern highlands and in Makkah.
NCM issued warnings of thunderstorms, hail, and winds reducing visibility in several parts of seven regions in the kingdom starting from Sunday.
Thunderstorms, accompanied by hail and strong winds, will affect several parts of the Eastern Province, Riyadh, Najran, Jizan, Asir, Al Baha, and Makkah, according to NCM.
Strong winds are causing sandstorms in parts of Al Qassim and Madinah, as well as in the coastal areas of the Tabuk region.
Several areas in western Saudi Arabia, including Makkah, experienced heavy rain over the weekend.
A video reposted by the authorities of Makkah showed worshippers continuing their prayers in the Masjid al-Haram, the holiest site in Islam, amid heavy rain.
Last week, the port city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia was hit by heavy rain, causing floods.
Social media footage showed flash floods following heavy rain in the northeast of Jeddah.
