Shimla: A major accident was narrowly avoided on Monday at Shimla Airport after Alliance Air flight no. 9I821, which was travelling from Delhi to Shimla, experienced a technical issue with its brakes during landing. Fortunately, all 44 passengers on board, including Deputy Chief Minister (Dy CM) of Himachal Pradesh, Mukesh Agnihotri, and Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. Atul Verma, were safe.
According to Shimla Airport sources, the aircraft had to be grounded immediately for inspection following the incident. The issue occurred during the plane’s descent at Shimla Airport, where the pilot reported a malfunction with the braking system upon landing.

Himachal Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, who was on board the flight, described the tense moments following the landing. Speaking to the media, he shared his experience, stating, “We reached Shimla via flight this morning. There was some issue with its landing... I don't know the technicalities, but I can tell as a layman that when the plane was about to land, it did not touch the ground where it should have. It could not stop and reached the spot where the runway ended."
The flight continued to move beyond the usual landing point and, according to Agnihotri, the plane veered towards the edge of the runway. “The plane turned at the edge of the runway, and reached a point where it could be stopped... Strong brakes were applied to stop the plane... We had to stay in the plane for another 20-25 minutes...”
Following the incident, the flight was grounded and taken out of service for further inspection.
