Moscow has suffered its largest drone attack in months, with dozens of Ukrainian UAVs launched toward the Russian capital early Tuesday. Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed that at least 69 drones were shot down by Russian air defenses, with most intercepted outside the city limits. However, debris from a downed UAV caused damage to the roof of a residential building on Domodedovo Street, though no injuries were reported.
The Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyev provided further details, stating that at least three residential buildings in the suburbs of Domodedovo, Vidnoye, and Ramenskoye were also damaged by falling debris. In Ramenskoye, drone wreckage struck an apartment building, damaging at least seven units between the 19th and 22nd floors. One civilian was killed in the attack, and three others were injured.
As a precaution, Moscow’s major airports, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky, temporarily suspended operations amid the drone raid.
This assault marks Ukraine’s most significant attempt to strike Moscow since November, when 32 UAVs were intercepted before reaching the capital.
Beyond Moscow, Russian border regions continue to face escalating attacks. The regions of Belgorod, Kursk, Kherson, and Bryansk—as well as Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic—have seen frequent shelling and drone strikes. On Monday, a missile attack on a shopping center in Kursk left four dead, while another strike on a Kherson market killed three civilians over the weekend.
The head of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), Aleksandr Bortnikov, recently warned that Ukraine is shifting toward terrorist tactics, increasingly targeting deep Russian territory with drones and Western-supplied weapons. “Their goal is to inflict maximum economic damage and intimidate the population,” Bortnikov stated.
