New ride

As many as three flights per day will go back and forth between Penticton and Vancouver this summer, as Pacific Coastal Airlines beefs up capacity on the route.

The company this week increased from one to two its daily fights between YYF and YVR, and plans to add a third, beginning June 23.

In addition, Pacific Coastal has upgraded to 34-passenger Saab 340B aircraft on the route, which will offer 1,126 return seats each week at the height of the summer.

"As Penticton continues to grow, this expansion of service by Pacific Coastal Airlines is very welcome. We know more people are calling our community home and these improved connections with the Lower Mainland will help to drive our economy forward,” said Mayor Julius Bloomfield in a press release.

The full summer schedule, in effect from June 23 through Sept. 7, will see the three daily flights on Sundays, Mondays, Fridays and select Wednesdays. There will be two daily flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a single flight on Saturdays.

Pacific Coastal is offering a 20% discount on online bookings using the promo code YYF20.

WestJet is also offering additional service this summer out of YYF by adding a second daily round trip between Penticton and Calgary International Airport.

Options to fly out of Penticton became more limited in January, after Air Canada discontinued service on its route to Vancouver, leaving Pacific Coastal Airlines as the only carrier to provide regular service to the coast.
