PHOENIX — Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport said operations have returned to normal after a security incident on a British Airways flight from London to Phoenix Thursday night.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation said special agents responded to the aircraft and determined there was no threat to the plane, passengers or crew.
In a statement to 12News, British Airways said, "We apologise to customers for the short delay to their journey; the aircraft was met by authorities as a precaution. The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority."
The airline said the incident was "not an emergency landing, and all passengers disembarked as normal."
The north runway at the airport was temporarily shut down during the investigation but reopened a short time later.
Ken, a defense contractor who was in Iraq for eight months, was on board the British Airways plane. He told 12News they were told there was a “security breach” on the plane but said no law enforcement agents entered and he did he see anyone get arrested.
The FBI’s investigation said the threat is in its initial stages and no other information is available at this time.
