Super Metro CEO, Nelson Mwangi on Wednesday, March 22, revealed that he had moved to court seeking orders barring other Saccos from interfering with their operations at select stages within the Central Business District (CBD)

Speaking exclusively to Kenyans.co.ke, Mwangi noted that they had received a letter of No Objection from the Nairobi county government for the occupation of stages near Ambassador and Kencom.

He added that other matatu Saccos which operated at the stages objected to the move, fearing competition. He noted that the court would make a ruling on the matter at the end of the month.

"What they are fearing is competition. We are bringing sanity and order because wherever we go people will still queue for our services," he added.

Mwangi also detailed how the standoff ensued, pointing out that Super Metro had applied for a licence at National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to pick and drop off passengers at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), upon its request.

He added that the licence, which was approved by the Authority, included areas along Upper Hill and its environs.

"Super Metro also applied to pick and drop off customers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as we want Nairobi residents to enjoy our services. (As a result) We were given a letter of no objection by the Nairobi County Government," Mwangi explained.

"We did not go there to displace anyone, but because there is space for all of us," he added.

He added that the letter allowed Super Metro to gain access to Kencom and Ambassador stages.

"We are having a technology which is electric mobility and hence we want to give excellent and quality services to all Nairobi residents," the Super Metro boss pointed out.

Mwangi also noted that five electric buses would be added to the market by the end of the month and they would acquire more fleets by the end of June 2023.

On whether Super Metro would add new routes, he added that it would depend on the outcome of the court ruling.

"We are partnering with the Nairobi County Government to bring order and sanity. We are also helping Nairobians to move to different destinations by offering excellent and quality services," he affirmed.
