Philippine Airlines (PAL) cancels a number of flights to Western Visayas (Region 6) as the region shields itself from the surging coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in key areas around the country.

PAL announced the cancellation of flights on their Facebook Page, citing compliance with the government’s temporary suspension of inbound passenger travel to Western Visayas from the NCR Plus bubble area, as well as from Cebu and Davao, effective immediately until April 10, 2021

With the announcement made effective immediately, all flights from Manila to Bacolod, Iloilo, Antique, Caticlan, Kalibo and Roxas cities are cancelled until April 10.

Flights from Cebu to Caticlan until April 10 and from Cebu to Bacolod vice versa on April 9 is cancelled.

However, PAL also announced that flights from Iloilo, Bacolod, Roxas and Kalibo to Manila continue to operate during this period. Flights from Antique to Manila will operate on April 10.

The announcement comes as the Civil Aeronautics Board said in an advisory dated April 4 that Region 6 has requested the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to temporarily suspend inbound travel from NCR Plus bubble which includes the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal; Cebu City, and Davao City until April 10, which the task force approved.

Passengers affected with the cancellation of flights may convert tickets to a Travel Voucher, avail of unlimited rebooking until December 31, 2021, or refund tickets without penalties, according to the PAL advisory. (GFB)
