American Airlines lost $ 2.2 billion in the fourth quarter of last year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The airline's revenue fell by almost two-thirds compared to the same period in 2019.

The company has predicted that similar revenue trends from the end of 2020 will continue into the first three months of 2021. American Airlines Group Inc. lost $ 8.9 billion in 2020.

The airlines hope the introduction of COVID-19 vaccines will lead to at least a partial recovery in travel this summer. Business and international travel, which is critical to both American Airlines and its competitors like Delta and United, is expected to slightly grow.
