Charter Flights Between Bermuda And Azores

January 3, 2021

Skyport said they are “encouraged to see charter flights” between Bermuda and the Azores, and said “the local charter organizers have done a fantastic job in planting the seeds as a successful charter operation” and they will “keep an eye out on the flight’s performance to see whether it is something we can build upon.”

A One Mile At A Time story said, “This coming summer Azores Airlines is launching service between two of the most remote airport pairs out there. Azores Airlines will start flying to Bermuda as of the summer of 2021, and tickets are now on sale.

“The 2,224 mile flight is blocked at 5hr 10 min westbound and 4hr 4 5min eastbound. Azores Airlines will use an Airbus A321neo for the route. The airline has a fleet of six A320-family aircraft, and the A321neo that will be used for this route will feature 186 seats, including 16 business class seats and 160 economy class seats.”

Skyport President Aaron Adderley said, “We were in discussions with Azores Airlines several years ago to discuss the possible introduction of regularly scheduled service between Bermuda and the Azores.

“Though the regularly scheduled service has not yet materialized, we are encouraged to see charter flights scheduled for Winter 2020 and Summer 2021, with in fact, the first charter having operated on the opening day of the new terminal and a second prior to Christmas.

“Both had very strong passenger loads and we are optimistic regarding the next flights scheduled for early January, followed by weekly flights between June and September. The local charter organizers have done a fantastic job in planting the seeds as a successful charter operation can often be the prelude to regularly scheduled service.

“So we’ll certainly keep an eye out on the flight’s performance to see whether it is something we can build upon.”

This is great news! Not only for Portuguese residing in Bermuda, but also for Bermudians to visit a beautiful island. Bermudians and Portuguese have worked and studied side by side for so many years. I hope locals take advantage of the non stop flight. Azores, particularly Sao Miguel is a bucket list destination.
