Jaguar Land Rover parent company Tata is launching an air link between Mumbai and the UK - with return fares under £450.

Tata's subsidiary Indian airline Vistara will start the service between Heathrow and the coastal city on January 16 to add to an existing route from London to Delhi.

Vistara is to a joint venture between the Tata group and Singapore Airlines and the new service, which is expected to operate three times a week, will form a bilateral transport link between India and the UK.

Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets will be deployed on the route with economy return fares starting at £439.

Passengers can enjoy full flatbeds, three cabins with jet lag-reducing lighting, dimmable windows and free on-board WiFi.

Vistara chief executive Leslie Thng said: “We are delighted at the very positive response to our service between Delhi and London Heathrow which has encouraged us to further strengthen the network by adding connectivity from Mumbai as we see considerable demand between the two countries, and remain optimistic about the future.

“Vistara is well-positioned with its brand new fleet, world-class cabin products, award-winning service, and more importantly, the trust of our customers.”

Foreign Office travel advice for India states that a limited number of flights are operating under a bilateral agreement “but these are subject to strict eligibility criteria and details may change at short notice”.

Vistara said it will accept all eligible customers meeting visa/entry requirements in both countries, as specified by respective government bodies.
