A severe winter storm shut down Saskatoon on Monday.
The city received 31 centimetres of snow on Sunday, according to preliminary data from Environment and Climate Change Canada.
City officials were advising people not to travel Monday and to stay at home due to impassable roads, large drifts and ice.
Crews have been making progress with snow removal and Priority 1 roads are now passable with at least one lane open, according to the city. Those include Circle Drive, College Drive, Idylwyld Drive, 8th Street and 22nd Street.
Roughly 40 per cent of priority 2 roads are passable.
“We would like to thank residents who have been able to stay off the roads which has allowed room for snow clearing equipment and emergency vehicles,” said city manager Jeff Jorgenson.
“We remain focused on our priority roads and are working to open as many of our priority 2 roads as possible before the end of the day.”
However, Monday is municipal election day and the vote is still going ahead.
Those venturing out are being advised by the city to exercise caution around intersections, with some traffic lights and signs still covered in snow.

Saskatoon Transit
Saskatoon Transit has temporarily suspended service and will resume service once Priority 1 streets become accessible.
Transit officials said service will be expanded as conditions warrant.
Airport
Most flights departing from Saskatoon on Monday morning have been cancelled. Please check with your airline or Skyxe for your flight status.
Schools
All in-person public and Catholic high school classes are cancelled Monday, but at-home learning will continue with teachers providing direction and assignments for students.
Monday was already a professional development day for elementary school students.
Saskatchewan Polytechnic has closed its Saskatoon campus but said all online classes will continue as scheduled.
Saskatoon Christian School is closed due to weather conditions.
Garbage collection
Garbage collection is suspended Monday for Route 2: Avalon, Parkridge, Queen Elizabeth, Stonebridge, and The Willows.
Collection for this route is rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14.
Recycling collection
Recycling collection is suspended Monday for Route 1: Briarwood, College Park, College Park East, Rosewood, and Wildwood.
Collection for this route is rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14.
Landfill
The opening of the landfill is delayed.
Libraries
All library locations will be closed on Monday.
The municipal election polling stations at Frances Morrison Central and Alice Turner Libraries will remain open.
Leisure Centres
All Leisure Centres will remain closed Monday for all programming, rentals and Book-a-Visit drop-in activities.
The Shaw Centre (Bethlehem Gymnasium) and the Cliff Wright Branch Library in Lakewood Civic Centre will remain open as election polling stations from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Shaw, Cosmo, Lakewood and Lawson Civic Centres will also be open from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for election ballot drop-off locations.
All city arenas will remain closed until at least 4:00 p.m.
Courts
All Saskatoon traffic court and provincial offence docket matters scheduled for Nov. 9 have been adjourned until Nov. 23.
