ChõraClean lands contracts at Billund and Vágar airports through Blue

Billund Airport’s Cleaning Duty Manager Claus Brandt Thomsen said that ChõraClean is a proven concept that is “cost effective, simple to use and with minimum impact on daily operation”

NORDIC REGION. Non-ethanol-based disinfectant company ChõraClean has secured listings with Billund Airport in Denmark and Vágar Airport in the Faroe Islands. The two airports are now using ChõraClean’s biocide products on their fogging machines, which sanitise all airport surfaces including seating, counters and security trays.

In travel retail, ChõraClean is represented by travel retail agency Blue, which aims to expand the brand’s presence both in the travel retail and domestic channels.

ChõraClean was founded in 2017 by husband and wife duo Anne and Mikkel Bang Sommer. It offers a range of biodegradable disinfectants made with sustainable non-ethanol formulations. Its name was derived from the Greek word ‘Chōra,’ which means heart.

ChōraClean offers a wide range of biocide and non-ethanol-based disinfectant products

ChōraClean’s full range includes the Disinfect, UTD, Hand sanitiser and dispenser, Animalia, Mold and Mold Pro lines. Disinfect is a general purpose disinfectant while UTD offers a more powerful cleaning formula.

The company’s Disinfect biocide eliminates 99.999% of bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19. Disinfect also has a ‘no rinse’ claim in food safety, making it suitable for airport food & beverage operators. This means that it can be used on surfaces that come into contact with food without the need to wipe or rinse before use.

Its ethanol-free Hand Sanitiser and Dispenser line is suitable for the general public while the Animalia line is safe for pets and their environments. The ChõraClean Mold and Mold Pro lines also help protect against mold formation.

“Airports have high safety and cleanliness thresholds, and particularly so during these pandemic times,” commented ChõraClean Co-owner Mikkel Bang Sommer. “We are therefore very pleased that both Billund and Vágar airports have chosen ChõraClean Disinfect for their sanitising needs. It speaks volumes about the efficacy of our products.”

Billund Airport’s Cleaning Duty Manager Claus Brandt Thomsen added, “We use the highly effective ChõraClean fogging machines and biocide liquid to disinfect trays used by travellers when going through airport security.

“We’ve partnered with ChõraClean because of their proven track record and user-friendliness. As an airport, we need proven concepts that are cost effective, simple to use and with minimum impact on daily operations particularly during these unprecedented times.”

According to Bang Sommer, ChõraClean is a particularly effective sanitation solution for high-traffic environments such as airports. He said: “ChõraClean leaves a protective layer which acts to prevent cross contamination, no need for wipe downs. This reactivates the disinfection process when exposed to moisture.”

Thomas Kaneko Henningsen said, “ChõraClean keeps airport travellers safe. The trigger sprays for surfaces and fogging machines for larger rooms, buildings, cafes and restaurants, leave behind a protective coating that makes it harder to be infected with COVID-19. This makes it a highly effective cleaning and sanitising product for travel retail.

“Although our heritage is travel retail, we are committed to the online and high street retail channels too,” added Henningsen. “We want to help ChõraClean tailor turnkey solutions to airports as well as hotels, retail stores, department stores and web shops. These range from go-to-market strategies, leadership sparring and deal making, to marketing, sales and account management.”

ChõraClean is represented in the channel by Blue, which aims to expand its growing PPE portfolio

“In the past year, Blue has teamed up with leading PPE manufacturers in Denmark, Germany, USA and South Korea and developed a portfolio of leading disinfectant solutions that kill viruses like COVID-19,” Jacob Oppenheim added. “We have a complete range of best-in-class disinfecting gels, liquids, sprays, wipes, dispensers, face masks, gloves and much more. ChõraClean fits this equation perfectly as it bridges gaps in our portfolio. ChõraClean is a breath of fresh air.”

Karl Walter added that personal protective equipment (PPE) companies will become a key pillar of Blue’s strategy. He said, “PPE is a long-term strategic initiative and we are only getting started. Our partnership with Copenhagen-based ChõraClean adds another dimension to our PPE toolbox.

“We have been on the lookout for a disinfectant that kills coronavirus yet is user-friendly, cost effective and non-ethanol based. Ethanol products can damage surfaces and human skin over time, Biocide is far more user-friendly and leaves behind a coating that makes it harder for bacteria and viruses to hang on to trays, surfaces, door handles, etc. That’s why we are convinced that ChõraClean has a bright future in travel retail.”

Blue exhibited ChõraClean at the recently concluded Virtual Travel Retail Expo. Bang Sommer said, “Travel retail is of strategic importance to us. We are committed to the channel following our successes at airports in the Nordics. We are grateful for the warm welcome travel retail has given us.”

Henningsen added, “We are positively surprised to see how much traction ChõraClean is getting with airports, food and beverage operators and inflight. Hats off to the ChõraClean team for a successful launch into travel retail.”
