A mysterious violet light was spotted in the sky over Wales last night, it's been revealed.

Residents in parts of Swansea and Carmarthenshire witnessed the strange "blob" in the evening on Tuesday (January 21), as reported by WalesOnline.

The unidentified light was spotted by baffled resident from 6pm onwards and has been described as "floating" in the sky, sparking speculation that it might have been a UFO.

One resident from Llanelli, who wished to remain anonymous, saw the "blue or purple light" and said "it looked like it was coming from the M4, it moved to the right then went off."

Whilst another witnesses provided further commentary on the currently unidentified incident in Wales.

Andrea Harries said: "I came out into the garden with the dog and saw a blue, purplish light.

"It was bright but dimming every now and then. It moved over to Pontlliw and then towards Llanelli and then it just went."

Residents captured the strange light in photos

Ms Harries described it as being "fair size" and said that there were no planes or noise at the time either, with the resident confused over what exactly she saw in the sky.

And a third witness, Pixie Fear, said that the light was "just floating" in the sky whilst she did university work at home in Pontarddulais.

The 22-year-old said: "Me and my brother came outside and this blob lit up the sky and flashed on and off.  It was just floating through the sky going west. It was huge.

"We did a plane tracker but there were no planes  about - it was going between Llanelli and Carmarthen and was so bright."

She said it "seemed to go pretty far," at least a few miles, and commented that "a few minutes later a plane or helicopter went past," though this looked "very different" to the mysterious light.

It's not the first time a mysterious light has been seen over the country, as a similar incident occurred in North Wales last year.

In February 2019, a strange blue light was witnessed over the A55 - and captured on video - before vanishing seconds later.

At the time, the Met Office suggested it could have been related to a power cut in the area or even a lightning strike.

UFO investigator Russ Kellett however believed that the flash was a warning from extraterrestrial life and he suspected it was connected to a secret alien base underneath North Wales.

In August 2018, the Manchester Evening News also reported a similar sight, which residents described as a "pulsating purple glare".

At the time, a spokesperson for Network Rail said: “We can confirm this was not an unidentified flying object (UFO). It was rather an identified non-flying object (INFO) - namely a railway ballast tamping machine, which uses lasers.”

However, this hasn't yet been confirmed in Wales.
