Capella Space and the Air Force Research Laboratory will test the ability of the company’s constellation of synthetic aperture radar satellites to facilitate imagery collection and data downloads under a $750K contract, Breaking Defense reported Monday.

“We will be working with our Air Force stakeholders to conduct demonstrations and explore adaptations of our SAR service for military applications, without impacting the commercial utility of the system,” Dan Brophy, vice president of government services at Capella, told the publication.

Brophy said the company and the service will also conduct other tests, such as demonstrating the SAR satellite constellation’s capability in hot spot monitoring, change detection, tip and cueing and object identification with other military platforms.

Capella CEO Payam Banazadeh said in August the company’s SAR satellite constellation is designed to generate imagery within 20 minutes of tasking through the firm’s network of partners, which includes Inmarsat, Amazon Web Services and Addvalue.
