Turgut was a former player for the Salford Red Devils who was sacked in April after breaching club protocol.

A subsequent statement from the club, released earlier this month after an internal investigation, said: 'Salford have terminated the contract of Jansin Turgut, following an internal investigation. No further comment will be made.'

Turgut left former club Hull FC last season and had signed a short-term deal with Salford until the end of the campaign before agreeing a new longer term contact after impressing which was then ripped up.

He was born in Kingston-upon-Hull and represented England Academy against the Australian Schoolboys in 2014 and made his Hull FC debut on March 5 2015 in a Super League match against Leeds Rhinos at the KC Stadium.

He is of Turkish origin through his father and represented Turkey in the 2018 Emerging Nations World Championships, captaining a side that won three of their four games.

A statement from the Red Devils released on Monday said: 'Salford Red Devils wish Jansin a full and speedy recovery and request that all supporters remain respectful of his family’s privacy at this difficult time.'

The incident is being investigated by the Civil Guard force on the island.

A well-placed source said: 'A full report will be passed onto an investigating judge. At this stage the incident is not being treated as a crime.'

It is not yet clear if Turgut had just arrived in Ibiza or was about to leave the island, or if he was alone at the time or accompanied by others.
