Manchester United face Burton in the renamed Carabao Cup tonight.

And they go into the clash with the Championship side on a high after seeing off Everton 4-0 on Sunday.

That was a result that left them level-pegging with Manchester City oat the top of the Premier League.

But with the focus on the former EFL Cup - of which United are holders - there are likely to be some changes from manager Jose Mourinho.

Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay, absent from the u23s squad vs Chelsea on Monday night, will both be keen to feature at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard and Matteo Darmian will be keen to feature.

United told how much they 'will need to pay to land Sanchez'

United will need to offer Alexis Sanchez a whopping £25m signing-on fee to convince him to join the club on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to the Sun.

The 28-year-old was persistently linked with a summer move to bitter rivals Man City in the summer, but the move never materialised despite talk of a swap deal involving Raheem Sterling.

The Chile international appears destined to leave the Emirates when his contract expires at the end of the season, though, and United could sign a pre-contract agreement in January.

Will he start? He can solve United’s left side issue if he has a strong display and convinces Mourinho to play him in the Premier League going forward over Blind and Darmian - very much auxiliary options.

Mourinho's 'spot on' with Martial management - Dion Dublin

I don’t know whether he’s going to force his way in or whether he’s going to continue to play that role, he said.

I think either way he will be effective.

I don’t think he’s the kind of player that sulks. I think he’s the kind of player that gets on with things, so it’s down to Mr Mourinho.

At the moment he’s got it spot on, so if Martial can stay strong, stay focused, and stay a team player, United will be a better team.

Former United coach doubts Ferdinand's pedigree

It [the announcement] was stunning, Mick Clegg told the BBC.

It’s all about adaptation when you’re changing careers. Adaptation for boxing is massive because generally you’ll start as a young lad or girl.

You adapt to sparring and you take collisions on the head. Everything is built up in your body and your brain to be able to cope with it.

Coming in at 38 years old, he’ll get some smashes in the head and that adaptation hasn’t developed over a long time.

How Nicky Butt uses Marcus Rashford to inspire next generation

I think Marcus has always been a shining example and a shining beacon for our academy boys, he told Sky Sports.

He was there from seven/eight/nine years of age and right through the system where he is now. He is a superstar in Manchester United’s first team, he’s playing for England so that’s what everyone wants.

It’s not always like that, everyone’s journey is not the same. We put Marcus on a pedestal in the academy with pictures of Ryan, Paul, David and people like that but we can’t all be like that.

Neville backing three players to step up after Pogba injury

A big miss, he told Sky Sports. You talk about the characteristics we were speaking about before about character and personality on the pitch. He always wants the ball, he always believes in himself. Even if it’s not going well for him he’ll always try that pass. You miss that kind of person in the team so he will be a big miss.

He’s taken a bit of stick in the last 12 months in terms of his pricetag and expectation of what people believe he should be delivering. He would probably admit himself that last season he fell below what would be his standard but he started off the season brilliantly and he is a loss.

But United have got now..Fellaini’s come in, they’ve got Herrera, Michael Carrick. You’re going to lose players throughout the season. You have to overcome it. There’s no way you can go all the way through the season without picking up injuries to key players and United have to cope with that.

Gary Neville backs Alexis Sanchez move

Manchester United, in my mind, should always be challenging for the best players in the world and the argument is that always Barcelona and Real Madrid if they do want someone they will get them and that has played itself out over the last 10/15 years but United are now financially challenging, he told Sky Sports.

They are paying the sums they need to pay to attract the best players in the world. I’ve not seen the Alexis Sanchez news so you have given me something I haven’t heard before but, from that point of view, United, from a general perspective, should always be challenging for the best players in the world and bringing them in.

20 coachloads of Burton fans to make trip to Old Trafford

There are 20 coaches booked to travel to Manchester and we have between 1,700 and 2,000 fans travelling up, chairman Ben Robinson said.

We are delighted the game will be shown on Sky at 8pm, which will be beamed all over the world, and my cousin who lives in Mexico is flying to LA to watch it with his sister.

It is great exposure for the town and the club. Manchester United are arguably one of the biggest clubs in the world with the biggest fanbase and we are looking forward to going to Old Trafford.

We have very fond memories of 2006 when we were made most welcome by them. We are really looking forward to the occasion.

Leeds boss wants United in the cup

Manchester [United], Manchester City, Arsenal or Liverpool would be nice, Thomas Christiansen said after their penalty shootout win against Burnley.

Sergio Romero ready to take his chance in cup

I’m always ready and prepared for whenever the manager says that I have my chance to play, he told MUTV. If it happens to be this Wednesday for the cup game, then great. Or, if not, whenever else it’s my turn. I feel good in myself and I’m working hard for whenever he gives me my opportunity.

The main objective is for things to go well for the club and for the team to perform well and achieve all the victories and success we need to. Then, on a personal level, it’s quite natural that I need to play because you have the Argentinian national team, who are hoping for me to get some game time.

But my own aims are very clear, enjoy and make the best of every minute that the manager gives me here. I’m always ready to play, I think I demonstrated that last year when I played 18 games and you saw how I did in those 18 games. I’m very happy and at ease at this club and the minute that Mr Mourinho tells me I’m starting, I’ll be 100 per cent ready to go.

When the manager says to me: ‘Sergio, you’re in the side for this game’, whether it’s the league or the cups, or whatever, I’m prepared to show that that he can still have faith in me because I’m in good form.

The Class of 92 launch..a university in Stretford

There should be no limits to what you can achieve with the right preparation, Gary Neville said of the project which is due to open in September, 2019.

Our aim is that UA92 graduates would leave with an academic qualification, of course, but also with a range of other skills such as how to deal with pressure, understand finance, leadership and presentational skills, and also how to maintain a healthy body and mind.

In other words, the complete package you need to succeed in the workplace.

Burton star Matty Lund explains why he turned down United - twice

My father had been driving me down to Crewe for years, twice a week, taking me to games on a Saturday, he told the Sun.

He never complained once. But I’m sure he would have been very glad to have been making a much shorter trip into Manchester if I had said yes.

There was also the fact that, as a family, we were all United-mad. My dad was even on duty as a doctor at games for three years.

But each time, it just didn’t feel right to me.

I’d been going to Crewe since I was ten. I had a lot of mates there and I loved the coaching under Steve Holland, who is now assistant manager to Gareth Southgate for England.

And even then I could see that some kids just sort of disappeared when they signed up for United.

I just thought that if I was going to make it as a footballer, I would have a better long-term chance by staying where I was.

Not once did my Dad question my decision. I’ve always admired him for that.

Why Tim Howard failed at United - Tony Coton

It became clear to me that Tim now wanted to take all the decision-making out of his game just in case he chose the wrong option again, Coton wrote in his new auto-biography.

That’s not how world-class goalkeepers perform. We spent the next twelve months trying to find a cure for Howard’s neurosis, but it was a painful and unsuccessful process.

Tim didn’t feel he needed help, but the fact that he spent the entire 2004/05 season sharing goalkeeping duties with Roy Carroll should have given him an idea that the manager was coming to the conclusion that he just wasn’t good enough.

When we reached the FA Cup final again, it was Carroll who got the nod. Arsenal fluked the trophy, somehow holding out for a goalless draw after being outplayed for every single one of the 120 minutes and then winning on penalties.

Howard eventually left for Everton in the summer of 2006, initially on loan and then in a permanent deal which enabled United to recoup their initial £3 million investment. He went on to become a stalwart for both club and country -- largely, I suspect, because playing for both Everton and the United States carried none of the pressure or expectation that comes when you are defending the Stretford End.
