Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson have called off their engagement, according to reports.

CNN and TMZ have both cited sources close to the the singer which claim she and the Saturday Night Live performer “still have love for each other”, but things are over romantically.

The pair’s romance began in May earlier this year, with reports that they were engaged emerging just days later – a rumour that Davidson later confirmed in an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where he said it felt like he'd "won a contest".

Soon after their relationship began, they moved into a $16 million (£12.2 million) New York City apartment together and adopted a piglet named Piggy Smalls in September.

Davidson has multiple Grande themed tattoos, including a dangerous mask woman on his neck – something he covered up earlier this week by transforming it into a love heart. Meanwhile, Grande repaid the public display of affection by releasing the song “Pete Davidson” on her album Sweetener.

Grande and Davidson first met on the set of SNL when Grande hosted the comedy sketch show in 2016. “I had the biggest crush in the world on him the whole time—like forever,” she previously said of meeting Davidson for the first time. Likewise, he told GQ: ”The day I met her, I was like, ‘Hey, I’ll marry you tomorrow.’”

Grande has been mostly absent from the public eye following the death of rapper Mac Miller, her ex-boyfriend, on 7 September.

“I adored you from the day I met you when I was nineteen and I always will,” she wrote in tribute. “I can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. I really can’t wrap my head around it. We talked about this. So many times.”

Grande and Davidson later cancelled their appearance at the 2018 Emmys, citing the need for her “time to heal”. Grande said last week she would be taking a break from music, writing on Instagram: “Been through hell and back and I’m doing my best to keep going.”

Davidson has deleted his Instagram account following reports that his relationship with Grande has ended. The Independent has reached out to the former couple’s respective representatives for comment.
