WORLAND — The Worland Board of Adjustment and Planning Commission approved the site plan for a new privately-owned general aviation hangar owned by Ty Jenkins.

During the board’s regular meeting July 5, Airport Manager Lynn Murdoch said Jenkins has been wanting to get this project done for a while and they have been working on it for more than a year.

The hangar will be 10,000 square feet with a height of 33.33 feet, according to the plans.

Murdoch said the hangar is being placed “where it will fit in with the future airport plans, adding Jenkins has “done everything we’ve asked of him.”

She said Jenkins will extend a current taxilane to his hangar but once the taxiway is extended a new taxilane will be constructed. Murdoch noted the new taxilane is on the master plan schedule for 2023-2025.

City Clerk/Treasurer Tracy Glanz said everything on the site plan check list had been covered. The plans had also been reviewed by the fire chief and city engineer.

Fire Chief Chris Kocher said his only concern is of the infrastructure provided by the city and a concern about the waterflow and pressure at the airport.

Board member Mike Dykman asked if it was time for the city to possibly consider a water storage tank out there if they can’t fix the flow issue.

Kocher said if they can’t come up with a solution that may be an option.

Garret Immesoete asked about landscaping around the hangar and Murdoch said landscaping is all set by the Federal Aviation Administration.

In other business, Glanz reported that the Verizon cell tower would only be 85-feet high instead of the 100-feet requested in the original site plan.

Glanz also reported that they would be conducting two more interviews for the building official position today. She said she was hoping to make a recommendation and have someone hired and in place this month but it will likely be August.

“We’re still selling permits,” he noted.
