Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport has installed a cryptocurrency ATM that will help travelers exchange the leftover euros for cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The Schiphol Airport claims itself to be the first European airport to install a Bitcoin ATM on a six-month trial to gauge the demand for such a service among passengers. The busy airport is the main international gateway of the Netherlands.

International travelers mostly get stuck with foreign fiat currency in hand, that is not accepted in their home country. This ATM facility at the airports will enable travelers to exchange the fiat currencies quickly to a "truly global currency".

"With the Bitcoin ATM, we hope to provide a useful service to passengers by allowing them to easily exchange 'local' euros for the 'global' cryptocurrencies Bitcoin and Ethereum. That can be beneficial if, for instance, it's not possible to spend euros in their home country," says Tanja Dik, director of Consumer Products & Services at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

The crypto ATM trial is being conducted in partnership between Schiphol Airport and the Dutch startup ByeleX Data Solutions BV, operating under "The Byecoin Company,"which recently opened an ATM division.
