Kyrgyz Prime Minister Sapar Isakov meets with EBRD representatives

Bishkek, Dec. 20, 2017 / Kabar /. Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sapar Isakov met today with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) led by EBRD Director for Central Asia and Russia, Natalia Khanzhenkova and ERBD Director for Turkey, Kyrgyz Republic, Romania and Azerbaijan, Tuskin Temiz.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed that the relations between the sides are at a very high level, the Kyrgyz government’s press service reported.

Isakov said that the Kyrgyz government has worked out a new development program Forty Steps to New Era for 2018-2023, where the most priority areas of cooperation between the Kyrgyz government and international development partners are implementation of three programs: the digital transformation program of Taza Koom, access to clean drinking water program of Taza-Suu and program on new irrigated land "Development of irrigation."

"Our international partners have actively joined to the development and realization of the new government program Forty Steps to New Era and therefore we have achieved effective coordination of the projects under this program," Isakov said.

The Head of Government expressed confidence that through Taza Koom project, the country will have effective business projects, which in turn, gives a great impetus to the economic development of the country.

Khanzhenkova thanked the Prime Minister for the meeting and stressed that there are already significant positive changes in the country.

"You conducted an honest and transparent presidential elections. The whole world community saw competitive elections and the elections mainly passed peacefully. This is a good signal for investors. A positive solution for Kumtor issue is an extremely important step that will also serve as a good reason for investors to come. In the work of the Government, positive dynamics are also noticeable. We are confident that the next years will be the opening of new opportunities for Kyrgyzstan," Khanzhenkova said.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed the development of energy infrastructure. The Prime Minister said that the Kyrgyz government’s priority directions for the country’s future is the development of energy infrastructure, which will be aimed at increasing energy efficiency and developing non-carbon energy. Development in this area is already there and it is already very noticeable. The Prime Minister also mentioned of the major internal reform that is undergoing at the National Energy Holding .

The Prime Minister said that Kyrgyzstan has great opportunities in the field of aviation." Kyrgyzstan needs to develop its airports. Currently we are working hard in attracting investors to this industry so that it would be possible to fly through us. It is necessary to establish competitions for the airline, who are interested in working in this field. The country needs to develop airports, increase cargo and passenger traffic," Isakov said.

EBRD representative said that they are ready to assist in implementation of the most promising projects of the country and stressed the importance of their self-sufficiency.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister stressed once more that the EBRD was and remains an important partner of Kyrgyzstan and expressed hope and confidence for further fruitful cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
