A reorganisation of the layout of the Malta International Airport’s Central Security Screening Area is scheduled to start this coming Friday, and is expected to create bottlenecks until February 2018.

The airport said that, in light of this, travellers who will be passing through the terminal in the next four months are advised to be at the airport at least 2 hours before their scheduled flight departure time.

MIA apologised for any inconvenience these works may cause, and said that it “envisages this to be the penultimate disruption to impact the passenger journey as a result of the Terminal Reconfiguration Project.”

The airport said that its Central Security Screening area was recently transferred from its original location on the ground floor to a much bigger, albeit temporary, space on Level 1 of the terminal.

“While this move has already improved the security screening process significantly, the reorganisation works that will be starting soon will pave the way for the final relocation of the Central Security Screening Area to a permanent space on Level 1 in the second quarter of 2018,” it said.

MIA concluded by saying that, “here, two of six queueing lanes will introduce for the first time a fast-track option for passengers travelling with children and business travellers.”
