Mother, father and their 10-year-old twin children are killed when their small plane crashes in Colorado tragedy

  • Jeff and Jennifer Hickey Makepeace, and their two children Addie and Benjamin, died when the plane they were traveling in went down in western Colorado
  • Plane was flying from Fort Collins to Moab, Utah, when it crashed late Friday about 170 miles west of Denver
  •  The Cirrus SR22 disappeared from radar near Baxter Peak, 15 miles north of Glenwood Springs 
  •  National Transportation Safety Board and FAA will investigate

A family of four were killed when the private plane they were traveling in went down in western Colorado.

Jeff and Jennifer Hickey Makepeace, and their two children Addie and Benjamin, were aboard the single-engine aircraft flying from their home in Fort Collins to Moab, Utah, when it crashed late Friday about 170 miles west of Denver.

The Cirrus SR22 disappeared from radar near Baxter Peak, 15 miles north of Glenwood Springs.

Searchers found scattered debris shortly before noon Saturday and were able to land. 

They found that no one had survived. 

The sheriff's office worked to get ground crews to the area to recover bodies and begin the investigation.

The Garfield County Sheriff's Office says the plane carrying the family of four was flying from Fort Collins to Moab, Utah, when it crashed late Friday about 170 miles west of Denver, near Glenwood Springs (pictured)

The victims have not officially been named but friends and family on social media identified them as Jeff, 47, a plumber from Fort Collins, Colorado, and Jennifer Hickey, 45, Makepeace. 

Their two children Addie and Benjamin also perished in the crash.
