The reintroduction of domestic flights to Yonphula in the east and Gelephu in the south-central regions on November 11, 2017, have transformed the way people make their local travels today.

Most people in the east including highlanders from Merak and Sakteng take flights over road transportation to travel to Thimphu, saving both time and money. Some take the flight to experience the new mode of transportation.
