HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Hawaiian Airlines jet that left Honolulu on a regularly scheduled flight to Phoenix on Friday afternoon has been forced to return to the Daniel K. Inouye Airport because of a mechanical issue, Hawaii News Now has learned.

Data from the flight-tracking website FlightAware shows that HAL36 – which left Honolulu at approximately 12:25 p.m. Friday afternoon – returned to Oahu less than two hours after taking off.

A company spokesperson says there was an apparent issue with the plane's oil filtration system that prompted the pilot to fly back to Honolulu.

The issue has been resolved, Hawaiian Airlines saysm and the plane is fit to continue service.

This story will be updated.
